How to calculate the fuel consumption of a car is both standard and simple. A fixed amount can be added each time you refuel, and the mileage subtotal can be reset. The next time you refuel, you will see how many kilometers you have traveled, which is more accurate and simple. For example, every time the fuel gauge light comes on, go and refuel. Add 200 or 300 yuan at a time, and the next time the fuel gauge light comes on, see how many kilometers you have driven. Don't look at the average fuel consumption displayed on the dashboard. Some cars may not be accurate and can only serve as a rough reference for fuel consumption. Referring to the above refueling habits, we can clearly feel the changes in car fuel consumption. Normally, fuel consumption increases, and we often do some maintenance, such as cleaning the oil circuit and replacing spark plugs. Many car owners have reported that after these two maintenance projects, why did fuel consumption not decrease but instead increase?

oil consumption (1)

First of all, let's talk about the spark plug issue. If you replace a spark plug that is the same as the original car, the increase in fuel consumption is not related to the spark plug. If you replace a spark plug at a 4S store, it is the same as the original car. If the fuel consumption increases, don't look for the spark plug issue. If you buy it yourself or replace it at a repair shop, there may be a risk of being replaced incorrectly. Replacing the wrong spark plug can lead to insufficient ignition energy, incomplete combustion, and thus increased fuel consumption. If it is a spark plug problem, it will be accompanied by engine vibration, which will be greater than before and the power will also decrease.

oil consumption (2)

Why is the spark plug replaced incorrectly? It comes in many models, such as single electrode and double electrode, with different electrode gaps, spark plug lengths, and heating values. When purchasing spark plugs yourself, don't always think about replacing them. Be sure to purchase spark plugs that are suitable for your vehicle model, as this is the safest option. Although some differences can be used, the effect is unknown and may be better, or it may lead to incomplete combustion.

oil consumption (3)

Besides the issue of cleaning the oil circuit, there are two possibilities for increased fuel consumption after cleaning: one is that the cleaning is not thorough, and the other is that it is normal. A car has undergone cleaning of the oil circuit and intake duct. After cleaning, the engine was turned off and other items were installed. If the engine was turned on again, it could not be started. This is obviously due to carbon deposits not being cleaned thoroughly. For example, the entire circle on the valve was originally evenly coated with carbon, but it could still be tightly sealed. After cleaning, half of the circle fell off, and there was still half of the circle that was not washed off. This resulted in a loose seal, which could cause the valve to fail to ignite or cause shaking during ignition. So if it is not thoroughly cleaned, there will also be engine shaking, unstable operation, and shaking greater than before.

oil consumption (4)

If there is no shaking phenomenon and the engine runs smoothly, only the fuel consumption has increased, which is a normal phenomenon. As long as the engine computer is adapted to the environment without carbon accumulation after driving a few hundred kilometers, the fuel consumption will return to normal. Why is this? Because there is a fuel correction, assuming there is carbon buildup on the fuel injector, the amount of gasoline sprayed at the same time will be less. Due to a certain intake volume, the engine computer will make an adjustment to the injection time to make the injection time longer, and the injection volume can meet the requirements. If the carbon deposits are removed at this time and the engine computer has not adjusted the fuel injection time to normal, there will be a situation of excessive fuel injection, leading to an increase in fuel consumption. After driving for a certain distance, the computer will automatically adjust to normal, and the fuel consumption will also decrease. The mileage is about a few hundred kilometers, which is about a tank of fuel. Adding a second tank of fuel can restore it.
