The meaning of Cylinder Scoring is that the cylinder has suffered abnormal wear and the cylinder wall has been scratched, which is a relatively serious fault. Scratches on the cylinder wall are equivalent to severe internal damage to the engine, which prevents it from running properly and produces abnormal noises. Additionally, the cylinder pressure is also affected, resulting in severe engine shaking and weak acceleration, making it impossible for the car to continue driving. The maintenance method can only be to overhaul the engine, repair the cylinder liner, replace the piston and piston rings, and then identify the cause of the malfunction and repair it. So why does the engine pull the cylinder? Under what circumstances will the cylinder pull? There are several situations.
1. Engine oil failure causes Cylinder Scoring. If fake engine oil is used for maintenance, or if the car has been driven for tens of thousands of kilometers without maintenance, the probability of Cylinder Scoring is high. Not only Cylinder Scoring, but camshafts may also suffer from severe wear. I once encountered a car that had not been maintained for two to three thousand kilometers, and the oil turned into a paste. Eventually, the engine made a strange noise, and upon inspection, it was found that the camshaft was worn. The engine is running, and the piston moves up and down at high speed inside the cylinder, ensuring sufficient air tightness. The wear of the piston and cylinder wall components is minimal, relying on the lubrication of the engine oil. The better the lubrication effect of engine oil and the less wear, the less Cylinder Scoring will occur due to engine oil problems. If the engine oil fails and the lubrication is poor, Cylinder Scoring is inevitable.
2. High water temperature causes Cylinder Scoring. In older cars with a relatively long lifespan, the phenomenon of high water temperature is very common. If the water temperature is too high and you continue to drive, there will inevitably be Cylinder Scoring. There are two reasons: a high water temperature indicates a malfunction in the cooling system, and the overall temperature of the engine will also be high, especially around the combustion chamber, because gasoline burns here. The temperature of the piston is very high, and it will inevitably expand when heated. After expansion, the gap between the piston and the cylinder will become smaller and smaller, and it will eventually get stuck in the cylinder. When it is about to get stuck, the continuous movement of the piston will cause wear on the cylinder wall. Secondly, if the water temperature rises and you continue to drive, the cylinder gasket will inevitably be damaged, and coolant will enter the oil passage, greatly reducing the performance of the engine oil. It is not possible to provide good lubrication for moving parts, and other components will also suffer from varying degrees of wear.
3. The engine often experiences detonation and detonation. Knock refers to abnormal combustion of the engine, resulting in multiple ignition points in the combustion chamber. The combustion inside the cylinder is chaotic, and energy collides with each other, causing the cylinder to sway left and right, resulting in cylinder knocking. At this point, you can hear a noticeable clicking sound when stepping on the accelerator, which is known as knocking the cylinder. If the piston and cylinder wall collide multiple times, both will inevitably be injured, and the probability of cylinder wall damage is high. Knocking the cylinder is mostly caused by poor gasoline, and it may also be due to excessive carbon buildup in the cylinder. The repair method is to remove the carbon buildup in the cylinder and replace the gasoline.
4. The engine runs at high speed for a long time. High speed operation refers to a speed close to the red line of five to six thousand revolutions per minute. If the engine speed is too high, the load will increase, and even the water temperature will rise, which will greatly increase the probability of Cylinder Scoring. It can be simply understood that two objects rub together, and slow friction at low speeds will not cause too much wear. If friction is rapid, a large amount of heat will be generated, and the wear will also be severe. Of course, there should be no problem with short-term high revs, as there is a risk of Cylinder Scoring over time.
