The wheels of a car play an important role in the appearance of the vehicle. After buying a car, some people will replace the wheels with beautiful ones. Some low-end cars have iron wheels, while most people will replace them with aluminum alloy. So everyone cares about the aesthetics of the wheels. Some people may encounter a headache problem during use, as the wheels are always black, especially the two front wheels, which are particularly unsightly and difficult to clean. What's going on here? Will not cleaning have an impact on security? Today we will talk about several common issues related to wheel hubs.

       Wheel hub (1)

  1. What's wrong with the black wheel hub? This phenomenon does not belong to a malfunction. I have encountered a car owner who claimed that the wheel rims were blackened and looked oily, believing that it was caused by brake fluid leakage. Actually not, these black things are the powder worn off by the brake pads, which adheres to the wheel hub and causes blackening. Cars with soft brake pads and fast wear will have more severe blackening of the wheel rims. Do I need to clean up if I turn black? Firstly, we need to know that it has no impact on the performance of the wheel hub and other components, only on aesthetics. If you don't care about beauty, you can not clean it. If you care about beauty, you need to clean it. For cars with this situation, ask the car washer to wipe the wheel rims more frequently during each car wash, and it will be easy to wash them off. If it looks serious, washing the car is almost useless and needs to be cleaned separately with a brush. You can purchase wheel cleaning solution yourself, spray it on and brush it again, making it easier to clean.

  2. Is it normal for the wheel hub to be hot to the touch? Generally speaking, it is normal for the wheel hub to be hot to the touch, as the heat generated by the friction between the brake pads and brake discs is transferred to the wheel hub. Normal driving requires braking, which relies on the friction between the brake pads and brake discs. Friction generates a large amount of heat, which is transmitted to the wheel hub and feels hot to the touch. But if the hand is hot while not hot, or if you have driven a short distance and have hardly stepped on the brake, and still feel hot to the touch, you need to check if the brake cylinder is stuck and has poor return. If the brake pedal does not return to its original position, it will cause the brake pads to continuously rub against the brake disc, generating heat and resulting in a situation where the hands are hot even if the brake is not pressed.

  3. Does it matter if a piece of the wheel hub is knocked off? If there is a slight bump in the middle and no deformation, it doesn't matter and can be used normally. If the edge is knocked off a bit, check if it affects the tire's air tightness. It does not affect the airtightness and there is no problem. If it affects the airtightness, it needs to be replaced. If the situation is as shown in the figure below, it does not need to be replaced. If it is more severe, it may need to be replaced. If the edge is knocked off, it should be taken seriously and carefully inspected. A slightly larger one will affect the airtightness, and continuing to use may pose safety hazards.

  4. What should I do if the wheel hub deforms? Do you need to fix it? The wheel hub is deformed and cannot be repaired, so it can only be replaced with a new one. How do you know it's deformed? When the vehicle speed is high, the steering wheel may shake or the body of the vehicle may shake. At this time, it is necessary to perform dynamic balancing on the wheels. If the difference in dynamic balance is large, usually exceeding 100 grams, it indicates that the wheel hub is deformed and needs to be replaced. Wheel hub deformation is generally caused by passing over speed bumps or bumpy roads without slowing down, and the wheel hub is subjected to severe impacts. Therefore, when encountering unfavorable road surfaces, it is necessary to slow down. Normal road driving will not cause wheel hub deformation. Another situation is that there is a small local deformation at the edge of the wheel hub, which also depends on whether it affects the tire's air tightness. If it does, it should be replaced, and if it does not, it does not need to be replaced. Similar to knocking off a piece at the edge, edge deformation should be taken seriously and carefully inspected. Even slightly larger deformations should be replaced.
