When the car starts, the computer modules all have a self check process. When the ignition key is turned on, each computer module will send a signal to the sensor, and the sensor will provide feedback information to the computer module, proving that the sensors are working properly and the communication between various lines is also smooth. At this point, the phenomenon we see on the instrument panel is that all fault lights are on, and some car's instrument panel pointers will also swing once. If everything is normal after self inspection, the fault light will be turned off. If an abnormality is found, the fault light will remain on, even after ignition, to remind the driver to go for maintenance.

       self check (1)

Some drivers say that it is best to power on the car before starting, that is, turn the ignition key to the ON position, wait for two or three seconds, and then turn the key to start after the self check is completed, which is better for the car. Is it necessary to do so? First of all, the answer is that there are certain benefits to doing so, but not doing so will not harm the car. What are the benefits? Waiting for power on for two to three seconds is not just waiting for self inspection, but also waiting for the oil pump to establish pressure. After being powered on, the oil pump will work for two to three seconds. At this time, if you listen carefully, you can hear a buzzing sound, which is the sound of the oil pump working. Working for two to three seconds will automatically stop, with the aim of establishing sufficient oil pressure, which is more conducive to ignition. After parking the car for a period of time, a small amount of gasoline in the fuel pipe will flow back into the fuel tank, causing a decrease in pressure in the pipeline. If it is ignited directly, there should be a time to establish pressure, which may not be able to start at once or the ignition time may be relatively long, especially for some old cars. Just like when I just replaced the gasoline filter, it needs to be activated two or three times before it can be activated, because there is no pressure in the pipeline, and the pipeline needs to be filled with gasoline before starting the car.

The second benefit is that you can take a look at the fault lights on the car and get to know them yourself. The key is that they should all light up during the self check. If there is a fault light that does not light up during the self check, it also indicates that there is a problem with the system. It may be that the instrument or sensor itself is faulty and requires repair. Because it doesn't light up during self inspection, and it definitely won't light up when there is a malfunction, there may be a risk of the vehicle being driven with a malfunction.

       self check (3)

Why is it said that even starting a fire directly won't harm the car? Because self checking does not require a special environment, it can also be self checked after ignition. If there is no fault, it will go out, and if there is a fault, it will be on continuously, which means that ignition does not affect self checking. Some faults are sporadic, perhaps due to a communication issue that caused a signal interruption, but in fact, there is no fault itself. This signal interruption will also light up the fault light, but if the engine is turned off and ignited again, the system will self check and the fault light will go out. Another thing to note is that when only powered on and not started, it is normal for the engine malfunction light on the instrument panel to stay on. After ignition, it will turn off, which is the manufacturer's setting. So if the car gets old and the oil pump cannot maintain pressure for a long time, it should be powered on for two to three seconds before starting. If the oil pump can maintain pressure and ignite smoothly, there is no need to wait, just start it directly.
