According to the Associated Press of Finance, Tesla's super factory in Berlin, Germany has started producing the Model Y rear wheel drive basic version equipped with BYD batteries. This is Tesla's first use of a Chinese brand battery and the first electric vehicle launched in the European market to use LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries.

It is understood that this Model Y basic version adopts BYD's blade battery technology, with a battery capacity of 55 kilowatt hours and a range of 440 kilometers. In contrast, the Model Y basic version exported from the Shanghai factory in China to Europe uses the LFP battery from Ningde Times, with a battery capacity of 60 kilowatt hours and a range of 455 kilometers. The main difference between the two is that BYD's blade batteries have higher safety and energy density, and can be directly installed in the body structure, reducing weight and cost.

Tesla's German factory has also adopted innovative casting technology, casting the front and rear frames of the ModelY into a single unit, improving the strength and stability of the vehicle? Musk once referred to this technology as a revolution in the automotive manufacturing industry.

At present, Tesla's German factory has produced the ModelY Performance Edition and Long Range Edition. The ModelY basic version, which is equipped with BYD batteries, may be offline within a month. This also means that Tesla will provide more options and price ranges in the European market to attract more consumers.

According to the report, Tesla currently has no plans to use BYD batteries in the Chinese market and still relies mainly on Ningde Times and LG Chemical as battery suppliers.
