"Up to now, China's new energy vehicles still maintained a high growth trend, and it was expected that the sales of new energy vehicles would exceed 6.5 million this year." On November 3, Xu Haidong, the deputy chief engineer of the China Association of Automotive Engineers, said at the launch conference of China Automobile Health China.
At the end of 2021, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers predicted that the China’s total automobile sales in 2022 was expected to reach 27.5 million, with a year-on-year increase of 5.4%. Among them, the sales volume of new energy vehicles would reach 5 million, with a year-on-year increase of 47%.
In July, 2022, taking into account multiple factors such as "supply shock, demand contraction, and expected weakening" faced by China's automobile industry in the first half of 2022, China Association of Automobile Manufacturers(CAAM) lowered the expectation of China's automobile sales in 2022 from 27.5 million units to 27 million units, and lowered the year-on-year increase rate from 5.4% to about 3%. However, the expectation of annual sales of new energy vehicles was raised from 5 million units to 5.5 million units, and the year-on-year increase rate was raised from 47% to more than 56%.
According to the data of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to September, China’s production and sales of new energy vehicles were 4.717 million and 4.567 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.2 times and 1.1 times respectively, and with a market share of 23.5%. "Up to now, China's new energy vehicles have entered a high-speed development stage dominated by China's own brands." Xu Haidong said.
In Xu Haidong's view, the rapid growth of China’s brand automobiles was mainly reflected in three aspects: first, China's own brand automobile enterprises were more rapid and bold in customer experience, appearance design, quality management and control system, supply chain quality and efficiency management, and the adoption of new technologies, which has greatly improved their product competitiveness; second, the rapid development of domestic new energy and intelligent connected vehicles; third, the automobile export represented by new energy vehicles has entered a new stage.
Xu Haidong believed that in recent years, China's new energy vehicles had gradually matured and improved both in product innovation and iteration, and in the construction of the overall new energy vehicle supply chain system. "The reason why Tesla could reach production capacity rapidly in China was that China's supply chain (including motors, electric controls and batteries) could supply as quickly as Tesla needs. It was not Tesla
contributed to China’s supply chain, but China's supply chain contributed to Tesla." Xu Haidong said.
