In May 2021, China's automobile production and sales decreased slightly year on year, and new energy vehicles continued to maintain high growth.

1. Car sales fell 3.1% year on year in May

In May, the production and sales of automobiles were 2.04 million and 2.218 million respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 6.8% and 3.1% respectively.

From January to may, 10.626 million and 10.875 million vehicles were produced and sold respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 36.4% and 36.6% respectively.

1) Passenger car sales fell 1.7% year on year in May

In May, the production and sales of passenger cars were 1.617 million and 1.646 million respectively, down 2.7% and 1.7% year on year respectively. In terms of car models, the production and sales of cars were 774000 and 778000 respectively, of which the production decreased by 2.1% and the sales increased by 0.1% year on year, SUV production and sales were 719000 and 748000, respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 4.7% and 3.8% respectively; The production and sales of MPV were 78000 and 82000 respectively, of which the production decreased by 0.2% and the sales increased by 0.4% year on year. The production and sales of cross type passenger cars were 44000 and 38000 respectively, of which the production increased by 17.6% and the sales decreased by 1.5%.

From January to may, the production and sales of passenger cars were 8.285 million and 8.437 million respectively, up 39.1% and 38.1% year on year respectively. According to the model, the production and sales of cars respectively completed 3.819 million and 391900, up 36.4% and 37.2% respectively; SUV production and sales respectively completed 3.912 million and 398500 vehicles, up 40.9% and 39.5% respectively; MPV production and sales completed 390000 and 388000 vehicles respectively, up 55.3% and 39.7% year on year; The production and sales of cross passenger vehicles have respectively completed 150000 and 145000, with a year-on-year growth of 25.1% and 20.9%.

In May, 679000 Chinese brand passenger vehicles sold, up 18.6% year-on-year, accounting for 41.3% of the total sales of passenger vehicles, and the share of which rose by 7.1 percentage points year on year.

From January to may, a total of 3.507 million passenger cars of Chinese brands were sold, with a year-on-year growth of 54.7%, accounting for 41.6% of the total sales of passenger cars, with a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percentage points. Among them, the sales volume of the cars was 1055000, an increase of 99.3% year-on-year, and the market share was 26.9%; The sales volume of SUV is 2045000, an increase of 43.4% year-on-year, and the market share is 51.3%; The sales volume of MPV is 261000, up 36.7% year on year, and the market share is 67.3%.

2) Sales of commercial vehicles fell 7.4% year on year in May

In May, the production and sales of commercial vehicles were 424000 and 482000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 19.6% and 7.4% respectively. By vehicle type, 376000 and 435000 trucks were produced and sold respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 23.3% and 9.7% respectively; The production and sales of passenger cars were 48000 and 46000 respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 28% and 23.2% respectively.

From January to may, the production and sales of commercial vehicles were 2.341 million and 2.438 million respectively, up 27.8% and 31.9% year on year respectively. In terms of vehicle types, the production and sales of trucks were 2.135 million and 2.232 million respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 26.6% and 30.8% respectively; The production and sales of passenger cars were 207000 and 206000 respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 41.7% and 44.6% respectively.

2. In May, sales of new energy vehicles increased 1.6 times year on year

In May, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were all 217000, up 1.5 times and 1.6 times respectively. According to the model, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles have completed 181000 and 179000 respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 1.8 times and 1.7 times respectively; The production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles have respectively completed 36000 and 39000, up 67.8% and 1.2 times respectively; 38 and 9 fuel cell vehicles were produced and sold respectively, down 41.5% and 90% year on year.

From January to may, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were 967000 and 950000 respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 2.2 times. In terms of vehicle types, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 818000 and 794000 respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 2.6 times and 2.5 times respectively; The production and sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles were 149000 and 156000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.1 times and 1.3 times respectively; 188 and 207 fuel cell vehicles were produced and sold respectively, down 47.3% and 44.1% year on year.

3. From January to April, the main business income of key enterprises increased by 50.1% year on year

From January to April, key enterprises (groups) in the automobile industry accumulated main business income of 1372.24 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50.1%; The total profits and taxes amounted to 156.38 billion yuan, up 133.2% year on year.

4. Automobile export increased 208.4% year on year in May

In May, 151000 vehicles were exported, a year-on-year increase of 208.4%. By model, 115000 passenger cars were exported, up 226.4% year on year; 36000 commercial vehicles were exported, with a year-on-year growth of 161.7%.

From January to may, 670000 vehicles were exported, up 107.1% year on year. By model, 511000 passenger cars were exported, with a year-on-year increase of 109.1%; 158000 commercial vehicles were exported, a year-on-year increase of 100.8%.
