What's the Bogie suspension ?

Suspension is an important component connecting the chassis and the frame. The supporting force, braking force, driving force, etc. of the vehicle are transmitted through the suspension system, and it can also reduce the impact of harsh roads on the vehicle and ensure the stability of the vehicle . Suspension is generally divided into independent and non-independent suspensions. For semi-trailers, due to the need for strong load-bearing capacity, all non-independent suspensions are used.

There are four common suspensions for semi-trailers:

Leaf spring suspension

Leaf spring suspension is our common leaf spring, its full name is series-connected leaf spring balance suspension. It is mainly composed of leaf springs, suspension bearings (commonly known as lifting lugs), connecting rods, U-bolts and other parts. The longitudinal force of the car body falls directly on an axle.The biggest advantage of this kind of suspension is that it is cheap, reliable, and easy to maintain. At present, more than 80% of ordinary semi-trailers use leaf spring balanced suspension.

Air suspension:

The most obvious feature of air suspension is its airbag-type air spring. The air spring itself is relatively light in weight, the friction of the air medium in the airbag is small, there is almost no noise during operation, and its life is 2-3 times that of leaf springs. However, when an air spring is used, a rod system that can transmit various forces and moments other than the vertical force must be provided, so the suspension structure is complicated; in addition, the air spring has strict requirements for sealing, and its cost is also high. At present, most trailers use air suspension in high-end fields such as precision instrument transportation, tobacco transportation, and hazardous chemical transportation.

Rigid suspension:

Rigid suspension is that the left and right wheels are connected by an axle, and the body chassis directly acts on the axle. The shock absorption effect of this kind of axle is very poor, and the longitudinal unevenness of the road surface is completely adapted by the swing of the balance beam, thereby maintaining the relative balance of the front and rear axles. This kind of suspension is currently used relatively little, and is mainly used on low-speed axle low-plate semi-trailers that carry goods at low speeds.


Bogie suspension (Single point suspension):

Bogie suspension is to reduce the common leaf spring front and rear brackets into a single bracket connected to the car body. Its stress points are shared on the front and rear axles. Compared with ordinary leaf spring suspensions, single-point suspension has a higher bearing capacity. This kind of suspension is suitable for ordinary semi-trailers and heavy trucks.

The advantages of Bogie suspension:

1. The left and right wheels will be involved when they bounce, and the small amount of change in the tire angle makes the tire wear less.

2. It is not easy to change the angle of the wheels when the height of the car is lowered, so that the feeling of control is consistent.

3. Simple structure, low manufacturing cost and easy maintenance.

4. It occupies a small space and can reduce the height of the vehicle floor.

Disadvantages: poor comfort and poor stability.
