Many cars have undergone brake maintenance projects, and in some 4S stores of certain brands, regular maintenance is required, usually every 20000 to 30000 kilometers, and the price is not cheap. Many people don't quite understand, and just listening to the name of the project feels quite important. Maintaining the brake system can prevent brake failure and extend the lifespan of the brake system, so they choose to do this project. Actually, it's not as effective as we imagine. Now, let me explain what brake system maintenance does? And what do you need to do with the brake system to prevent brake failure in daily life?

brake systems maintain (1)

The maintenance of the brake system is actually lubrication of the guide pin of the brake cylinder to prevent it from getting stuck or moving smoothly, and to extend its service life. The slave cylinder is installed on the brake caliper. When we press the brake, the piston of the slave cylinder moves outward to push against the inner brake pad, which moves outward. Conversely, the slave cylinder needs to move inward. Driven by the slave cylinder, the outer brake pads also move inward, so that the two brake pads can clamp the brake disc and play a braking role. From this, it can be seen that when braking, the piston needs to move, the entire cylinder also needs to move, and the brake pads also need to move. Any place that can move back and forth must have good lubrication, otherwise the movement resistance is too high and it will also increase wear.

There is brake oil inside the piston as lubrication, so there is no need to worry. The entire slave pump moves along a guide pin, which is coated with lubricating grease. The maintenance of the brake system is to clean the impurities on the guide pin, apply new lubricating grease to the guide pin to increase its lubrication, and also lubricate the sliding points at both ends of the brake pads. This way, the movement of the brake pads and the slave cylinder is smoother, and the return of the brake pads will also be better, extending the service life of the brake pads. Some car brake pads have eccentric wear, with one side of the brake pad worn to its limit and the other side still very thick, which is caused by poor return of the brake pad. One reason for poor return is that the guide pin is stuck, and of course, another reason is poor piston return.

Brake maintenance is actually just lubrication, and its function may sound quite significant, but this project does not need to be done on time, and the maintenance manual does not include this maintenance project. The guide pin itself is coated with lubricating grease, and there is usually no wear and tear. The probability of poor lubrication of the guide pin causing poor movement of the slave pump is very low, and it is almost unlikely to occur. In addition, when some car models replace brake pads with new ones, the brake pad packaging contains lubricating grease, which requires lubrication of the guide pin, so there is no need to perform brake system maintenance.

This shows that the maintenance of the brake system is not to prevent brake failure, but to make the movement of the cylinder and brake pads smoother. The danger of brake failure is very high, and many people ask how to prevent it. In fact, brake failure usually does not occur. In addition to replacing the brake oil and brake pads normally, every maintenance check the brake pipes for damage, especially the rubber hose connected to the slave cylinder, to see if there is any leakage in the brake oil. If everything is normal, there won't be any problems. Finally, on long downhill roads, don't keep using brakes to control the speed and reduce the burden of braking. There are no other maintenance projects to do.
