Economic operation of China's automobile industry in September 2022

In September 2022, China's automobile production and sales continued to maintain a rapid growth trend, with 2.672 million vehicles and 2.61 million vehicles respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 28.1% and 25.7% respectively. Production and sales of new energy vehicles reached record high, reaching 755,000 and 708,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.1 times and 93.9% respectively.

1、 China's auto sales increased by 25.7% year-on-year in September

In September, China's auto production and sales were 2.672 million and 2.61 million, with a month-on-month increase of 11.5% and 9.5% respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 28.1% and 25.7% respectively.

From January to September, China's auto production and sales were 19.632 million and 19.47 million, with a year-on-year increase of 7.4% and 4.4% respectively, the growth rate was 2.6 percentage points and 2.7 percentage points higher than that from January to August respectively.

1） China's passenger vehicles sales increased by 32.7% year-on-year in September,

In September, China’s production and sales of passenger vehicles were 2.409 million and 2.332 million respectively, with a month-on-month increase of 11.7% and 9.7% , with a year-on-year increase of 35.8% and 32.7% respectively. In terms of vehicle types, the production and sales of cars were 1.13 million and 1.086 million, with a year-on-year increase of 39.9% and 38% respectively; the production and sales of SUVs reached 1.128 million and 1.11 million, with a year-on-year increase of 33.6% and 30.5% respectively; the production and sales of MPVs were 119,000 and 105,000, with a year-on-year increase of 19.6% and 9.3% respectively; the production and sales of cross type passenger cars reached 32,000 and 31,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 47.9% and 29.3% respectively.

From January to September, China’s production and sales of passenger vehicles were 17.206 million and 16.986 million, with a year-on-year increase of 17.2% and 14.2% respectively. In terms of vehicle types, the production and sales of cars were 8.123 million and 8.047 million, with a year-on-year increase of 19.1% and 16.7% respectively; the production and sales of SUVs reached 8.167 million and 8.04 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 19.1% and 15% respectively; MPVs production and sales were 681,000 and 663,000, with a year-on-year decrease of 6.3% and 7.9% respectively; the production and sales of cross type passenger vehicles reached 234,000 and 236,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 13.9% and 14.6% respectively.

2）China's commercial vehicle sales fell 12.5% year-on-year in September

In September, China's production and sales of commercial vehicles were 263,000 and 279,000, with a month-on-month increase of 10.5% and 7.9% respectively; and with a year-on-year decrease of 15.6% and 12.5% respectively. In terms of vehicle types, 223,000 and 239,000 trucks were produced and sold, with a year-on-year decrease of 17.5% and 14.4% respectively; the production and sales of passenger vehicles reached 40,000, with a year-on-year decrease of 3.1% and a year-on-year increase of 1.1%.

From January to September, China’s production and sales of commercial vehicles were 2.426 million and 2.484 million respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 32.6% and 34.2% respectively, the decrease was 1.5 percentage points and 2 percentage points lower than that from January to August respectively. In terms of vehicle types, 2.143 million and 2.201 million trucks were produced and sold, with a year-on-year decrease of 33.5% and 35.3% respectively; the production and sales of passenger vehicles were 283,000, with a year-on-year decrease of 25% and 23.9% respectively.

2、China's new energy vehicle sales increased 93.9% year on year in September

In September, China’s production and sales of new energy vehicles were 755,000 and 708,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.1 times and 93.9%, and with a market share of 27.1%. The production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 578,000 and 539,000, with a year-on-year increase of 93.8% and 77.2% respectively; the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 177,000 and 169,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.8 times; the production and sales of fuel cell vehicles were 183 and 202, with a year-on-year increase of 18.1% and 16.8% respectively.

From January to September, China’s production and sales of new energy vehicles were 4.717 million and 4.567 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.2 times and 1.1 times, and with a market share of 23.5%. Among them, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 3.682 million and 3.578 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.0 times and 97.9% respectively; the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 1.033 million and 987,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.9 times and 1.7 times; the production and sales of fuel cell vehicles reached 2,000 units, with a year-on-year increase of 1.7 times and 1.3 times respectively.

3、  China's auto exports increased by 73.9% year on year in September

In September, China exported 301,000 complete vehicles, with a year-on-yer increase of 73.9%. In terms of vehicle types, 250,000 passenger vehicles were exported, with a year-on-year increase of 85.6%; 51,000 commercial vehicles were exported, with a year-on-year increase of 32.6%. 50,000 new energy vehicles were exported, with a year-on-year increase of more than one time.

From January to September, China exported 2.117 million complete vehicles, with a year-on-yer increase of 55.5% . In terms of vehicle types,

1.696 million passenger vehicles were exported, with a year-on-yer increase of 60.1% ; 422,000 commercial vehicles were exported, with a year-on-yer increase of 39.2% . 389,000 new energy vehicles were exported, with a year-on-year increase of more than one time.
