In September 2021, affected by adverse factors such as the shortage of automotive chip supply, China's automobile production and sales delayed the downward trend year-on-year, the sales volume of new energy vehicles continued to maintain rapid growth, and the market penetration reached 11.6% from January to September.

1. In September, China's auto sales fell by 19.6% year-on-year

In September, China's automobile production and sales reached 2.077 million and 2.067 million respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 17.9% and 19.6% respectively.

From January to September, China's automobile production and sales completed 18.243 million and 18.623 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 7.5% and 8.7% respectively.

1) In September, the sales volume of passenger cars decreased by 16.5% year-on-year

In September, the production and sales of passenger cars were 1.767 million and 1.751 million respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 13.9% and 16.5% respectively. In terms of models, the production and sales of cars were 801,000 and 780,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 12.3% and 18.9% respectively; the production and sales of SUVs were 845,000 and 850,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 14% and 13.5% respectively; the production and sales of MPV were 99,000 and 96,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 15% and 13.8% respectively; the production and sales of cross passenger vehicles were 22,000 and 24,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 44.9% and 37.7% respectively.

2) In September, the sales volume of commercial vehicles decreased by 33.6% year-on-year

In September, the production and sales of commercial vehicles were 310,000 and 317,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 35.2% and 33.6% respectively. By vehicle type, 269,000 and 277,000 trucks were produced and sold respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 38.5% and 36.1% respectively; the production and sales of buses were 41,000 and 39,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 1.5% and 8.9% respectively.

2. In September, the sales volume of new energy vehicles increased by 1.5 times year-on-year

In September, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were 353,000 and 357,000 respectively, an increase of 1.5 times year-on-year. In terms of models, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 291,000 and 296,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.6 times and 1.5 times respectively; the production and sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles were 62,000 and 61,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.2 times and 1.4 times respectively; the production and sales of fuel cell vehicles were 155 and 173 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 50.7 times and 172 times respectively.
