Operation situation of China's automobile industry in May 2022:
1. The year-on-year decline in automobile production and sales was significantly narrowed
In May, China's automobile production and sales reached 1.926 million and 1.862 million respectively, with a month-on-month increase of 59.7% and 57.6% respectively, and with a year-on-year decrease of 5.7% and 12.6% respectively.
From January to May, China's automobile production and sales reached 9.618 million and 9.555 million respectively, a year-on-year decrease of 9.6% and 12.2% respectively.
Up to now, except for a small number of enterprises that have not returned to work due to the epidemic, China's automobile enterprises have returned to work and production in a good condition. The flow of production personnel, logistics, transportation, and supply situation of enterprises have been improved significantly, and the production capacity has been gradually resumed.
2. Passenger vehicles production increased slightly year-on-year
In May, the China's production and sales of passenger vehicles reached 1.701 million and 1.623 million respectively, with a month-on-month increase of 70.8% and 68.2% respectively. The output increased by 5.2% year-on-year, and the sales volume decreased by 1.4% year-on-year. Compared with that of last month, the growth rate of production has changed from negative to positive, and the decline of sales has narrowed by 42 percentage points, and the overall production and sales have been close to the normal level.
From January to May, the China’s production and sales of passenger vehicles were 8.196 million and 8.133 million respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 1.1% and 3.6% respectively.
3. The production and sales of commercial vehicles still fell significantly
In May, the China's production and sales of commercial vehicles reached 225,000 and 239,000 respectively, with a month-on-month increase of 7.2% and 10.4% respectively; with a year-on-year decrease of 47.0% and 50.5% respectively.
From January to May, the China’s production and sales of commercial vehicles reached 1,422,000 and 1,421,000 respectively, with a year-on-year decrease of 39.4% and 41.9% respectively. In terms of models, the production and sales of passenger vehicles decreased by 30.4% and 29.3% year-on-year respectively; the production and sales of trucks decreased by 40.3% and 43% year-on-year respectively.
4. The cumulative production and sales of new energy vehicles exceeded 2 million
In May, China's production and sales of new energy vehicles were 466,000 and 447,000 respectively, with an increase of 1.1 times year-on-year. Among them, 364,000 and 347,000 pure electric vehicles were produced and sold, with a year-on-year increase of twice and 93.9% respectively; the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 102,000 and 100,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.8 times and 1.6 times respectively; 243 and 103 fuel cell vehicles were produced and sold, with a year-on-year increase of 5.4 times and 10.4 times respectively. In May, the market share of new energy vehicles reached 24%, of which passenger vehicles accounted for 26.3%.
From January to May, China's production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 2.071 million and 2.003 million respectively, with an increase of 1.1 times year-on-year, and both have exceeded 2 million. According to the monthly change pattern, we are confident that the number of vehicles will exceed 5 million throughout the year. Among them, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 1.642 million and 1.586 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1 times; the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 427,000 and 416,000 respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 1.9 times and 1.7 times respectively; the production and sales of fuel cell vehicles reached 12.77 million and 9.35 million respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 5.8 times and 3.5 times respectively.
5. The market share of Chinese brand passenger vehicles continued to be higher than that of the same period last year
In May, 799,000 China's brand passenger vehicles were sold, with a year-on-year increase of 17.5%, and the market share reached 49.2%, an increase of 7.9 percentage points over the same period last year.
From January to May, a total of 3.897 million China's brand passenger vehicles were sold, with a year-on-year increase of 11.3%, and the market share reached 47.9%, with an increase of 6.4 percentage points over the same period last year.
6. Auto exports reached a new high this year
In May, although affected by factors such as poor international logistics and weak domestic supply capacity, China's monthly automobile exports still hit a new high this year. In May, China’s automobile enterprises exported 245,000 vehicles, with a month-on-month increase of 73% and a year-on-year increase of 62.3%. In terms of vehicle types, the export of passenger vehicles was 196,000, with a month-on-month increase of 97.5% and a year-on-year increase of 69.7%; the export of commercial vehicles was 49,000, with a month-on-month increase of 15.8% and a year-on-year increase of 38.2%.
From January to May, China’s automobile enterprises exported 969,000 vehicles, with a year-on-year increase of 44.7%. In terms of vehicle types, the export of passenger vehicles was 747,000, an increase of 46% year-on-year; the export of commercial vehicles was 222,000, with a year-on-year increase of 40.4%.
